【Press Release on 17 Dec 2023】The HSBC Hong Kong Community Festival 2023 was held successfully at Chater Road Pedestrian Precinct in Central today. As the annual flagship event of the HSBC Hong Kong Community Partnership Programme (the “Programme”), the Festival attracted close to 8,000 visitors.

This year, the Programme has selected 30 projects which benefit more than 137,000 people across all 18 districts of Hong Kong. The outstanding projects were recognised in the HSBC HK Community Partnership Programme ceremony at the HSBC Main Building today.

Mr K K CHAN, Chief Secretary for Administration of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Dr Peter WONG, Chairman, The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, and The Hongkong Bank Foundation, Mr Bernard Charnwut CHAN, Chairperson, The Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS), Mr CHUA Hoi Wai, Chief Executive, HKCSS, and Ms Luanne LIM, Chief Executive, Hong Kong, HSBC, officiated the ceremony.

Dr WONG said, “Since 2012, the HSBC Hong Kong Community Partnership Programme has meaningfully touched the lives of more than 7 million people. As the largest initiative of its kind in the city, it has built a robust network with local NGOs, and empowered secondary school students to generate innovative ideas to address community needs. At HSBC, we take pride in promoting diversity and inclusion through the Programme; complementing our other initiatives. We remain committed to collaborating with our community partners to provide support to those in need.”

Over the years, The Hongkong Bank Foundation has contributed HKD270 million to support more than 1,400 projects implemented by 240 NGOs through the Programme.

Mr CHUA expressed gratitude for the special collaboration with HSBC, “We are immensely grateful for the unwavering support and dedication from our partners. This joint effort brings about a significant positive impact, fostering a more cohesive and inclusive community. As we collaborate and co-create, we are stronger in enhancing the well-being of those in need and working towards a brighter future for the Hong Kong community.”

Out of the 30 projects this year, 40% are dedicated to promoting inter- generational inclusion, creating stronger bonds between the elderly and the youth. An additional 40% of the projects target youth development, with a focus on career planning and caring for their mental health.

The SMART Community Hackathon 2023, a STEM competition organised under the Programme, attracted 61 projects from 34 schools. The seven winning teams were invited to showcase their innovative ideas at the Festival.

The Festival was centered around the themed “A Gift for Hong Kong”, aiming to spread joy during the festive season. A 6-meter-tall gift box was installed at Chater Road, serving as a mini exhibition showcasing a diverse array of projects. Visitors had the opportunity to see the highlights of the Programme throughout the years.

HSBC volunteers have been an integral part of the Foundation, playing a crucial role in the Programme. Since January 2023, HSBC volunteers have dedicated close to 40,000 hours to support a wide range of philanthropic projects and activities.
