The poverty situation in Hong Kong is alarming. Particularly, the difficult situation faced by grassroots children has been one of the major issues of concern of the sector. Poverty has brought many negative effects on children's lives. How the sector can strengthen support for them is a topic worthy of discussion. In order to facilitate practitioners and interested groups to discuss this topic, the HKCSS will organize a seminar on "Practice and Innovation for Supporting Underprivileged Children", inviting social welfare organizations and concerned groups to share their experience of responding to the need of grassroots children, so as to explore the way out with the participants. 2021 Legislative Council (Social Welfare Functional Constituency) Election Forum

Upon the coming of the 2021 Hong Kong Legislative Council Election held on 19th December, 3 individuals have announced to stand for the election for the seat of Social Welfare Functional Constituency. To facilitate stakeholders in the field to understand the candidates and their views more, the Council is going to hold a Legislative Council (Social Welfare Functional Constituency) Election Forum on 4th December for agency members and social workers to have a dialogue with candidates running for the seat of the Social Welfare Functional Constituency, to understand their election platforms, and to express our policy and service concerns. Invitation to participate in the research salon on ‘Housing Choice and Service Needs of the low-income households of Sub-divided units (SDU)’

Our Council has been organizing ‘Evidence-based Practice Social Work Research Salons’ which aims to share the social work studies with practitioners in the sector and relevant stakeholders. In addition to discussing approach and design of research on social development or community well-being, the research salon aims to exchange how relevant research can inspire policy and service development. In the captioned research salon, we are going to share the main findings of the “Survey on the Housing Choice and Service Needs of the low-income Households of Sub-divided units (SDU) “released on 4th July (Click to download ppt) of the Counci.  The invited case speakers will share local SDU community service programmes. Invitation to participate in the Seminar on ‘Cases of social service on social-medical collaboration’

As announced in the 2017 Policy Address, the government will allocate resources to push ahead with primary healthcare to enhance district-based primary healthcare services. Our Council has always been concerned about primary health issues, and hopes to propose feasible service and policy recommendations of ‘social-medical collaboration’, so as to improve the overall health and disease prevention capabilities of different target groups in the community. In order to show how various social service programmes improve the health of the community, and to promote the exchange between the government and the sector, and to explore opportunities and challenges of these currently operating primary health services, our Council is going to hold a seminar ‘Cases of Social Service on Social-medical Collaboration’, to invite representatives of local social service agencies and of the Food and Health Bureau to share service cases and methods to demonstrate ‘social-medical collaboration. The seminar will also include a panel discussion for speakers and participants exchanging ideas on the above topics. Policy Research Advocacy Call for Nomination of Task Force Members (2021-2024)

Last year, the Council's Executive Committee decided to enhance our governance and strategy in Policy Research Advocacy through formation of 3 Task Forces to work on 3 strategic research and advocacy agenda, namely poverty and basic income protection, health and housing of the grassroots, and aging population and society.   These Task Forces are expected to be set up after the Council’s Annual General Meeting in 2021.  I write to cordially invites Agency Members to nominate representatives to join the Task Forces. The nomination process shall commence immediately upon the issue of this memorandum.  The closing time for nomination is 5 pm on September 10, 2021(Friday).  Please find attached the Terms of Reference of each of the 3 Task Forces and the Nomination Form.  Please refer to the Procedure of Nomination for details about how you should make your nomination and how nominations received will be processed.  For EACH of the Task Forces, each Agency Member may nominate no more than ONE member from their organization.  Please note that Agency Members have already been requested to verify the names of their Official Representatives and types of services their agencies operate.  To provide accurate membership information for reference for making nominations, the ...
