HKEX Launches “HKEX Impact Funding Scheme”

Funding HK$10 Million to Support Community Recovery and Promote Service Innovation

【Press release on 5 July 2021】 The Hong Kong Council of Social Service (“HKCSS”), in partnership with HKEX Foundation (“the Foundation”), has set up the HKEX Impact Funding Scheme (“the Scheme”) for the first time this year. With a grant of HK$10 million, the Scheme supports non-subvented local charities to implement community projects with the mission of community recovery from Covid-19. The Scheme accepts applications from eligible organisations starting from today.

The Scheme focuses on the four themes of the Foundation, i.e. Financial Literacy, Diversity and Inclusion, Poverty Relief and Environmental Sustainability, and with the overall aim to facilitate the society and the needy to recover from Covid-19 and adapt to the post-Covid world. In addition, the Scheme also aims to promote the use of technology and service innovation to address social and environmental challenges of the society.

HKEX Chairman Laura M Cha said: “HKEX Foundation is very proud to be launching the HKEX Impact Funding Scheme as part of its overall philanthropic initiatives. In the last 12 months, HKEX Foundation has channeled more than $174 million to those most in need in Hong Kong and beyond. This new Scheme, in partnership with the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, will enhance our outreach, channeling another $10 million to support small proactive charities, without other major support, to run projects that brings positive changes to our community. This will extend our commitment to the most vulnerable people in Hong Kong, reflecting HKEX’s commitment to our collective future.”

Mr. Chua Hoi Wai, Chief Executive of the HKCSS, thanked the Foundation for its support to the non-subvented local charities, which would enhance the diversity, innovation and effectiveness of social services in Hong Kong, benefiting more people in need in the community.  He said, “we have over 490 agency members, of which more than two-thirds do not receive regular subsidy from the Government. Though their scale is relatively small, they are flexible and creative, and good at utilizing community resources to provide specialised and unique services to the disadvantaged.”

The Scheme is opening for application from today to 11 August 2021. More details can be found at hkcss.org.hk.
