Activities of 2021 Best Practice Awards in Social Welfare: Gold Award Winners’ Sharing cum Best Practice Workshop

Throughout the years, the social welfare sector has accumulated valuable experience in rendering timely, responsive and effective services to meet community needs. By presenting the Best Practice Awards, we hope to salute and encourage best practices, demonstrate the contribution of social welfare to the well-being of the society, and to encourage mutual learning within the sector. The Awards has been organized every alternate year since 2003. With enthusiastic responses received from the sector in the past few years. Therefore, the Awards will be continued for promoting the best practice among the sector this year. Prior to the programme, the Gold Award Winners’ Sharing cum Best Practice Workshop will be held on 26 March 2021 at 2:30pm. Two winners of the 2019 Best Practice Gold Award have been invited to share their experience. Dr. AU Kit-ying from The DO School Asia will share on the topic “To Be An Innovative Changemaker”. She will introduce how to identify pain points of social issues, and apply innovative solutions to create greater social impacts. HKCSS Policy Bulletin Issue 29 – “Tenancy Control of Subdivided Units”

The new issue of Policy Bulletin is now available (Chinese version only). As always, our Policy Bulletin attempts to adopt new perspectives to look at policy issues in order to enrich policy discussions. Last year, the Chief Executive put forward ‘the package of 10 new livelihood initiatives to substantially enhance the support for grassroots and underprivileged people’, one of which was the feasibility study on ‘Tenancy Control of Subdivided Units’. The study will be completed in Mar this year and the result submitted to the government for policy consideration. This issue of Policy Bulletin ‘Tenancy Control of Subdivided Units’ aims to identify and analyze the policy parameters of the topic, to provide local data and overseas policy case studies, to explore the situation of small owners of private residential units in old urban districts, and to make policy recommendations. Invitation to help recruit and assist service user to participate in “Study on the Respite Needs of Carers” (Extension of data collection period to 31 March of 2021)

In recent years, our society has been thinking about how to set up a carer-centred policy to support carers.  The Council is now conducting “Study on the Respite Needs of Carers”, focusing on the needs of carers of elderly and persons with disability (including carers of pre-school and school-aged children with disability).  We would like to invite your organization to help recruit and assist service users of your organization and service units to participate in the study.  The data collection period will be extended to 31 March of 2021. Target: Unpaid carers who are providing continuous care to elderly or persons with disability currently (People who provide continuous care due to voluntary work or training are excluded.) Ways of Participation in the Study: We strongly recommend the carers to take part in the study through (1) telephone interview.  If the carers do not hope to conduct telephone interview, he/ she may take part in the study by (2) web-based self-administered questionnaire (available only in Chinese). Policy Seminar on ‘Tenancy Control on Sub-divided units’

The Government has set up the Task Force in 2020, to carry out feasibility study of tenancy control of subdivided units (SDUs) in Hong Kong. The study will be completed and the result submitted to the government this year. In order to promote understanding and discussion on SDU Tenancy Control in the social service sector, the Council is going to organize a policy seminar on ‘Tenancy Control on Subdivided units’, by inviting speakers to offer different analyses or suggestions on the subject. The policy seminar will discuss the market situation of the grassroots tenants, the possible impacts on the SDU rental market, supply and quality of SDU housing, as well as the advocacy strategies within and outside of the LegCo. 第五屆「認知障礙症家庭照顧者身心健康專業證書課程」(GIFTCare) (2021年7月開課)現正接受報名
