The National Security Law (NSL) that came into effect on 30 June 2020 has undoubtedly casted deep impacts on the legal, social, economic, political and other systems of Hong Kong. In a nutshell, the 66-article law criminalizes four types of acts: secession, subversion, terrorism, and collusion with a foreign country or external elements to endanger national security. One year after its promulgation, the Council has invited 2 legal academics to share with the social service sector the implications of NSL on NGOs’ operations as legal entities. As announced in the 2017 Policy Address, the government will allocate resources to push ahead with primary healthcare to enhance district-based primary healthcare services. Our Council has always been concerned about primary health issues, and hopes to propose feasible service and policy recommendations of ‘social-medical collaboration’, so as to improve the overall health and disease prevention capabilities of different target groups in the community. In order to show how various social service programmes improve the health of the community, and to promote the exchange between the government and the sector, and to explore opportunities and challenges of these currently operating primary health services, our Council is going to hold a seminar ‘Cases of Social Service on Social-medical Collaboration’, to invite representatives of local social service agencies and of the Food and Health Bureau to share service cases and methods to demonstrate ‘social-medical collaboration. The seminar will also include a panel discussion for speakers and participants exchanging ideas on the above topics. With support from all walks, Gerontech and Innovation Expo cum Summit (GIES) is now entering its 5th year.  GIES 2021 would continue to include thematic exhibition booths and pavilions to showcase the latest innovations and ideas for better living for elderly persons as well as other people with special needs.  In addition, workshops and interactive programmes would also be organized to provide a diversified experience for the participants. Date of Expo The GIES Expo will be held from 3-6 November (Wed to Sat) at Hall 1A-C of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
