Esha, a Pakistani born and raised in Hong Kong, is navigating the “preconceived notions” of others. She has experienced the sting of alienation caused by linguistic assumptions, but she was also empowered by a teacher who saw her potential and “taught to her needs”. By choosing to speak Cantonese, Esha is proactively tearing down cultural barriers.
