Programme Objective
The “Treasure Wealth, Treasure Love” Family Financial Education Programme, funded by DBS Foundation and co-organised with the Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS), aims to empower underprivileged families in Hong Kong through comprehensive, family-oriented financial education. The programme is designed to improve financial literacy, strengthen communication around financial matters within families, and change the common misconception that “talking about money can harm relationships.”
Launched in November 2024 and running for three years, the programme is built on strong partnerships with social service organisations and DBS volunteers. It will initially serve communities in Kowloon City, Kwai Tsing, Kwun Tong, Sha Tin, Wong Tai Sin, Tuen Mun, Yuen Long, and Sham Shui Po, reaching approximately 6,500 individuals from underprivileged families.
Programme Approach
In Phase One (January to December 2025), HKCSS is partnering with five Community Partners to deliver three key services:
- Financial Literacy Workshop Series
Tailored sessions that provide participants with practical financial knowledge and everyday financial management skills. - Family-Centric Thematic Groupwork
Engaging group activities designed to boost financial confidence and improve family communication in managing household finances. - Family-Centric Financial Coaching
Tailored consultations to help families address specific financial challenges and plan for the future.
Public Education Campaign
To further promote financial wellbeing and encourage open family dialogue about money, a District-based Financial Literacy Public Education Campaign will be rolled out across Hong Kong. These vibrant community events will feature:
- Gamified learning experiences;
- Interactive educational booths; and
- Fun, family-friendly activities.
All designed to build essential financial knowledge and strengthen communication skills in an enjoyable and accessible way.
Central to the campaign is the message that guides the entire programme: “Talking about money can strengthen family relationships.”
