The 73rd Annual General Meeting (the AGM) and election of members of the Executive Committee and Standing Committees (2020-2022) will be held on November 6, 2020 (Friday) at the Auditorium, 1/F, Duke of Windsor Social Service Building, 15 Hennessy Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong, detailed arrangements will be announced in mid-October. Nominations for the election of the following seats in the Executive Committee and Standing Committees are now invited:   9 members of the Executive Committee for serving a term of 2 years (2020-22) [Note 1]; and  5 members of each of the four Standing Committees - Standing Committee on Service Development, Standing Committee on Policy Research and Advocacy, Standing Committee on Sector and Capacity Development and Standing Committee on Public Engagement and Partnership, serving a term of 2 years (2020-22).   According to the Constitution of the Council, every official representative of Agency Members and Life Member shall have the right to nominate eligible persons for the above elections[Note 2].  A nomination form, which can be duplicated if necessary, is enclosed. Tax-exempt charities are facing more stringent regular review by the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) on their charitable status. As spelled out in the updated “Tax Guide for Charitable Institutions and Trusts of a Public Character” released earlier, it is the duty of charitable organizations to inform IRD the chargeability to tax for a year of assessment if they have commenced to derive chargeable profits, other than profits which were exempted under the proviso to section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance (S88 of IRO). To facilitate the compliance of S88 of IRO by our agency members, the Council has collaborated with EY Tax Controversy Services Team to arrange two rounds of pro bono consultation sessions in the second half of 2020. Each successfully enrolled agency can meet with the pro bono consultant to seek advice on tax matters (please refer to the application form for the scopes).
