Cultural sensitivity is the knowledge, awareness, and acceptance of other cultures and others' cultural identities. Increasingly, training is being incorporated into workplaces and students' curricula at all levels to enable us to successfully navigate a different culture with which we are interacting, especially in an international city like Hong Kong.  Funded by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s Anti-epidemic Fund, The Hong Kong Council of Social Service (The Council) has initiated a "Professional Traineeship Programme for the Ethnic Minorites” to nurture a pool of young EM professionals in the social service and business sector. There will be 24 trainees deployed to 6-24 NGOs and 16 trainees to 8-16 business companies. Trainees’ salaries and MPF costs will be reimbursed by the Government between September 2022 and August 2023.  Cultural Sensitivity Training is key to the orientation of work setting employing Ethnic Minorities. It is a recommended practice for nonprofit boards to conduct regular governance review. In late 2021, 50 organisations joined a board governance health assessment scheme using a refined measurement tool developed by the Council and our Partners. A webinar will be held in July to announce the overall assessment results and share on the insights drawn from this collective exercise in the adoption of international good practices in governance health. It will also cover the local practice wisdom and observations in the pain points and alternative practices conductive to enhancing governance health.
