Social service organizations provide diversity of volunteer opportunities, including escort, tutoring, visits, counseling, medical care, etc. There are also a wide range of service targets, such as children, young people, elders, chronically ill, mentally handicapped, ex-drug addicts, ex-prisoners, new arrivals, etc. The HKCSS estimates that the number of volunteer services reach 950,000 man-times each year.

Through the volunteer services, people in Hong Kong express their care and concern to the disadvantaged, and actualize the spirit of mutual help.

Social service organizations promote volunteering as a lifestyle and integral part of daily life. In addition to providing volunteer opportunities, they also provide training and organizing work. Some even collaborate with schools, community organizations, and corporations to promote volunteering.
