To protect the reasonable and appropriate rights of donors
To
promote social service agencies in their
Fundraising accountability
Financial transparency
in conducting fundraising activities
The ten donors' rights listed on the Pledge are based on those principles developed by profound international fundraising organizations including American Association of Fund Raising Counsel, Association for Healthcare Philanthropy, Council for Advancement and Support of Education and Association of Fundraising Professionals. The ten donors' rights are listed below:
We recognize and respect the rights of donors to:
1. Be informed of the organization's mission and the way of organization intends to use donated resources.
2. Be informed of the identity of members who are serving on the organization's governing board / executive body and to expect the governing board / executive body to exercise prudent judgement in its stewardship responsibilities.
3. Have access to the organization's latest auditors' report.
4. Be assured their donations will be used for the purposes for which they were given.
5. Receive appropriate acknowledgement or recognition, e.g. issuing official receipt.
6. Be assured that their donations are handled legally.
7. Expect that those seeking donations will have a polite and honest manner.
8. Be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization or hired agents.
9. Be assured that their privacy will be well protected if requested.
10. Feel free to ask appropriate questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.
Actively
provide information in facilitating donors to understand the mission and nature
of fundraising activities of the agency.
Respect
the wish and privacy of donors
Build
up an enquiry / complaints mechanism inside the agency and handle enquiries
/ complaints fairly and justly as well as giving formal reply to the person
making enquires / complaints.
As
participation in the scheme is voluntary, there will not be a monitoring mechanism
by the Council. However, if the Council receives an inquiry or a complaint
from the public or mass media against a participating member not abiding the
rules on the pledge, the case would be referred to the member for follow up
action. The Council will request the agency to provide information for clarifications
upon completion of the case handling. If a complaint is substantiated, the
Council will issue a formal letter of regret and may consider terminating
the participation of the concerned member and its right to further participates
in the scheme for a specified period.
