Meeting with SWD Representatives to discuss the Usage of $100m on Short-term Food Assistance
The Chief Executive Mr. Donald Tsang had announced on July 16, 2008 that the government would earmark $100m for providing short-term food subsidies to low-income families.? We learn that the government plans to apply the sum from the Finance Committee of Legislative Council some time in November for the purpose.? The Council would like to submit early to the Social Welfare Department (SWD) agencies’ views on how to make best use of this sum for the low-income families.
In this light, we shall organize a discussion forum for agencies to discuss the development of food assistance and the usage of the $100m.? The forum will take place on October 3, 2008 (Friday) from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Room 202, 2/F, Duke of Windsor Social Service Building, 15 Hennessy Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong.? Mr. Fung Pak-yan, Deputy Director (Service) and Mrs. Anna Mak, Assistant Director (Family and Child Welfare Branch) of SWD will join the forum to listen to agencies’ views.? The forum will also provide opportunity for agencies to explore possibilities of cooperation at district level.
Attached for your information is a background paper (1) / (2) on food assistance.? The paper highlights the current situation and issues for thought.
To facilitate fruitful discussion, we shall limit the number of participants to 2 for each agency.? For those who are interested, please complete the reply slip or register on-line on or before Sept. 26, 2008. |
