《Housing Talk》—Introduction to the German Private Rental Housing and her Tenancy Regulation

Housing – News      2016/03/30

The number of applications in the long waiting list for public rental housing, and average waiting time keep breaking the record. The grassroots households without the support of the public rental housing involuntarily live in the indecent and unaffordable private rental housing. Yet, the Chief Executive did not propose any short and medium term solutions to meet their housing needs, but merely reiterated the future target of housing units to build as well as land supply.

To encourage stakeholders in the field to explore the possible way out for Hong Kong’s housing problems, The Council publishes the third policy brief to introduce the German private rental housing and her tenancy regulation, particularly analyzing why German private rental sector dominates in the housing market. Some questions are raised out to stimulate readers to think about other possible housing solutions.

The third issue of “Housing Talk” in 2016 can be downloaded here. You are most welcome to express your ideas by sending it direct to Mr. Charles Ho, Officer of Policy Research and Advocacy at charles.ho@hkcss.org.hk. Thank you very much and we look forward to hearing from you!
