《Housing Talk》— Other possible housing solutions: Introducing Dutch social housing

Housing – News      2016/03/04

The number of applications in the long waiting list for public rental housing, and average waiting time keep breaking the record. The grassroots households without the support of the public rental housing involuntarily live in indecent and unaffordable private rental housing. Yet, the Chief Executive has not proposed any short and medium term solutions to meet their housing needs, other than merely reiterated the future target of housing units to build as well as land supply.

To encourage stakeholders in the field to think about possible ways out for Hong Kong housing problems, The Council is going to publishing a series of three policy briefs - the “Housing Talk” - to introduce international experiences on social housing and tenancy regulation. The first issue of “Housing Talk” introduces Dutch social housing, particularly how Dutch housing providers improve the quality of neighborhood life in addition to providing affordable housing. Some questions are raised to stimulate readers to think about other possible housing solutions.

The first issue of “Housing Talk” in 2016 can be downloaded here. You are most welcome to express your ideas by sending it direct to Mr. Charles Ho, Officer of Policy Research and Advocacy at charles.ho@hkcss.org.hk. Thank you very much and we look forward to hearing from you!
