1.      To receive the agenda

2.      To confirm the minute of last meeting (Appendix 1)

3.      Follow up on the co-option of members

Invitation has been sent to Dr. Robert Chung Ting Yiu and Mr. Anthony Wong has called Dr. Chung for follow-up. Reply is pending.

Prof. Ng Sai Leung will be as the 2nd priority and Dr. Wong Wai Lun will be as the 3rd priority for co-opted member choice in case Dr. Chung rejects the invitation.
Members suggested potential member can be selected from other think-tanks such as the Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies in the Chinese University whose business nature is similar to the Unit.

(Follow up: Dr. Robert Chung Ting Yiu accepted our invitation and will be the co-opted members of the committee in a two-year term)

4.      To discuss the annual plan for 2014-15

The following work has been summarized in the meeting as the work of the Team in the coming year:

 4.1  Social Development Index

  • Ø Next batch of Index will be released in March 2014

 4.2  Policy Bulletin

  • Ø Policy Bulletin will continue to serve as an platform for policy discussion. Members suggested to organize forums to engage the frontline practitioners of the sector and aroused their interest in different social policy aspects.

 

4.3  Promotion on Evidence-based Practice

  • Ø With the experience on organizing three EBP Conferences and workshops, the Council had bred an atmosphere that Evidence-based Practice. The Unit will continue the tasks in the coming year and co-work with the Service Team.

 4.4  General Research Work

  • Ø The Team will continue the following work:

(1)   Literature research. The Unit will continue to the research on research on different social service areas and maintain the database of the Centre for Excellence on research items that conducted by the sector.

(2)   Research network. A research network has been formed to foster mutual support and exchange for researchers in the sector. The Unit will organize 3 to 4 Research Salon in the coming year.

 4.5  Social Impact Assessment (SIA)

  • Ø The Team will continue its business on Social Impact Assessment project by conducting different SIA projects and provide training to the sector.

 The Committee members discussed the plan of the Unit and had the following suggestions:

  • To work on issues or service which are concerned by the public and service users
  • To foster practice research and develop localized research indicators and scales
  • To enhance the function as a resource sharing platform or community practice platform
  • To put more focus on the practice sharing and knowledge management
  • To expand policy discussion to other platforms
  • Social media should be used more often to promote policy discussion and resources sharing

 5.      Any other business

5.1   4th European Conference for Social Work Research 

  • The conference will be held from 15 to 17 April 2014 in Italy. The Council will offer subsidy to support participation. The application deadline for the subsidy is 20 Jan 2014 (Mon). 
  • Mr. Philip Choi and Mr. David Fung agreed to serve as the members of Vetting Panel. The vetting will be likely held on 21 (Tue) or 22 (Wed) Jan.

  • The next meeting will be held on 13 February 2014 (Thursday) 11:00 am 
  • The meeting was adjourned at 05:30 pm. 

Previous
