Elderly Service – References      2016/11/11

Red Carpet to Roll Out for Outstanding ‘Butterflies’

Between now and mid-January 2017, HK Electric and the Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS) will be inviting nominations to the Fifth “Outstanding Third Age Citizens Award” to recognise local retirees who have continued to contribute to the community after leaving their world of work.

The Award uses the image of a butterfly to represent the long lasting impact retired people may have on all they have come across, like what a butterfly may leave on its trail.

First held in 2009, the award is open to all aged 50 or above, who have retired from work or family responsibilities and have attained remarkable achievements in three areas:

  Pursuing lifelong learning and knowledge-sharing;

 Enjoying and promoting a balanced, healthy lifestyle; and

 Participating actively in social services, voluntary and charity work.

This year's adjudication panel includes the Chairman of the Elderly Commission, Dr. Lam Ching-choi; Vice-President (Student and Global Affairs) of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Professor Angelina Yuen Tsang Woon-ki; media veteran and former Outstanding Young Person, Chea Shuk-mui; Associate Professor of the Hong Kong Baptist University, Lobo Louie Hung-tak; Director and General Manager (Generation) of HK Electric, Francis Cheng Cho-ying; and Chief Executive of the HKCSS, Chua Hoi-wai.

Completed nominations must be submitted to the “Outstanding Third Age Citizens Award” Secretariat, 12/F, Duke of Windsor Social Service Building, 15 Hennessy Road, Wanchai on or before 12nn on 27 January 2017 and results of the award scheme will be announced in April 2017.

A certificate of recognition and a HK$5,000 scholarship will be awarded to the winner and a certificate of recognition and HK$2,000 in cash for the nominator. For enquiries or details, simply visit, or contact the Award Secretariat at 2876-2427.
