HSBC Community Partnership Programme - Internship Training for Associate Degree Students aims at inspiring Full-time Associate Degree students majoring in Applied Social Sciences, Psychology, Counseling, Social Studies or Social Work to contribute their knowledge and learned skills through internship with community groups and NGOs.

Programme Goals:

  1. To broaden students' understanding in the local community;
  2. To enhance career readiness for Associate Degree students after completion of their studies;
  3. To help Associate Degree students build network with potential employers including NGOs and community groups for better career opportunities in future.

Format:

A team of 2 interns in one placement organization (NGOs), which are located throughout 18 districts in Hong Kong. The placement would be assigned by HKCSS.

Each intern will be given an allowance of HK$3,200 upon successful completion of the internship and submission of report

Eligibility of Interns:
  • Full time students studying in Associate Degree
  • Majoring in Applied Social Sciences, Psychology,Counseling, Social Studies, Social Work of the following tertiary educational institutions:
    • HKU SPACE Po Leung Kuk Stanley Ho Community College
    • The Community College of City University
    • Hong Kong Baptist University College of International Education
    • The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Hong Kong Community College
    • Lingnan University Community College
    • HKU SPACE Community College

 

Role of Interns:

  • Upon selection, each intern is required to attend the Pre-internship Induction Program and related activities;
  • Each intern is required to finish the placement (70 hours) within April to July in one placement organization, the work schedule would be assigned by placement organization after the coordination between organization and intern;
  • Each intern shall commit to the internship and shall not withdraw unless for inevitable reasons;
  • Each intern is required to provide prior notification if you are unable to show up on time or carry out your duty, due to illness or fever, or any other reasons, so that other arrangements can be made;
  • Each intern is required to make best effort in the implementation of projects assigned; and
  • Each team is required to submit a report addressing lessons learnt and achievements upon the completion of internship.

 

Interns are recommended to assist NGOs in the following areas:

  • Liaison work of business project or community activities that help strengthen partnership between the non-profit organization and other sectors; and
  • Publicity and brand building activities of the non-profit organization(e.g. production of promotional materials, video production, social media, and liaison work of promotional activities, etc.), that enhance public awareness of the organization in the community.

Selection Procedures:

  • College reference: teachers will be invited to nominate suitable students from each college;
  • Sharing statement;
  • Performance in interview; and
  • Recent volunteer and work experience in NGOs and community groups will also be considered.
